Jane Young

Jane is a journalist based in the North East who worked for Trinity Mirror, one of the country’s biggest regional newspaper companies.

She began her career as a reporter with the Newcastle Advertiser, becoming editor after just 10 months. She then moved to the Gateshead Post working as a sub-editor before moving to the region’s biggest daily, the Chronicle in Newcastle, where she rose to become production editor. Her responsibilities included overseeing the lay-out of the paper and checking every page, including copy and headlines, for accuracy before the newspaper went to print.

After four years she reluctantly decided to leave to become carer for her elderly mother.

She then went into business, running a successful cafe in Whitley Bay. She is currently employed at Sainsbury’s and continues to work with her husband, Peter, who is former political editor of the Chronicle, on various ventures supplying local media with news releases on community initiatives including the campaign to reduce plastic waste.

She lives in Tynemouth and spends her spare time helping care for her grandchildren and the family dogs.
